Made-to-measure curtains and blinds in Ajman
Ajman is the emirate the made-to-measure trade mostly skips. Almost every company in this business is Dubai-based, and for a lot of them Ajman is where the map ends — so residents get a long wait, a vague date, or no call back at all, and end up buying ready-made from a shop that never sees the window.
We come here on the same terms as anywhere else, and that is most of what this page is about.
The comparison here is not between fitters
In Dubai our competition is other made-to-measure companies, and the argument is about who measures properly and who turns up on the date. In Ajman that is not the choice most people are actually facing. The real choice is between a made curtain and a ready-made one off a shelf.
So it is worth being straight about what differs, without sneering at ready-made — plenty of people buy it because nobody offered them a decent alternative.
What a ready-made curtain gets wrong
Four things, and they are all geometry rather than quality.
Drop. Ready-made comes in a few standard lengths and your window is not one of them. Too short and it hangs above the sill looking unfinished; too long and it puddles and collects dust. The gap between hem and floor is the most visible sign of a curtain that was not made for the room.
Width. A curtain needs meaningfully more fabric than the window is wide, or it hangs flat instead of folding. Ready-made sizing tends to be generous on length and mean on width, which is why so many of them look thin.
Stack. When it opens, the fabric has to go somewhere. On a made pair we plan that — running the track past the reveal so the stack sits on the wall and the glass stays clear. A ready-made pair simply covers whatever it covers.
Light at the edges. This is the one people notice at six in the morning. A curtain narrower than its track leaks light down both sides and over the top, and no amount of blackout fabric fixes a gap. Blackout is a coverage problem before it is a fabric problem.
Which windows are actually worth measuring
We are not going to tell you every window in your home needs made-to-measure, because it does not.
Worth it: any bedroom you sleep in, particularly east-facing; wide living-room spans, where fullness and stacking are visible from across the room; and any window that is a genuinely odd size, which describes a lot of older Ajman stock.
Not worth it: a small bathroom or kitchen window, a utility room, a window behind a door that stays shut. Buy something simple for those. If you are going ready-made there, eyelet is the sensible format — it slides off the pole for washing and it moves with you if you rent.
We would rather do the four windows that matter properly than the whole house badly.
Where we work
Two different jobs. On the Ajman Corniche and around Al Rashidiya and Ajman One it is high-rise apartments. Inland through Al Nuaimiya, Al Jurf, Al Zahya and Emirates City it is villas, low-rise blocks and family housing, and the work is closer to what we do in the older Dubai suburbs.
Tell us the building or district when you message and we will tell you what we already know about it.
One note on the sea
Corniche-facing apartments take salt in the air and strong reflected light off the water. For most people the practical consequence is undramatic: curtains near the sea get dirty faster and want washing more often than inland ones. Choose a fabric that cleans without drama, and tell us if your windows face the water, because the hardware specification changes.
