Venetian Blinds

One written price per finished window, after we’ve measured — fabric, lining, track, fixings, fitting and warranty all inside it. Nothing added later.

A venetian is the only blind that angles light rather than just blocking it. Horizontal slats hang on ladder tapes, and one wand or cord tilts every slat at once. Open, you get daylight without a clear line in. Closed, near-full cover. Raised, the whole blind stacks at the head. A roller and a roman are up or down; a venetian has a third position, and that tilt is the reason to choose one.

Aluminium or faux-wood

Aluminium slats are thin, light and indifferent to damp. They stack tightly and take the humidity of a bathroom or the splashes of a kitchen without swelling. What they cost you is noise and dents: slats knock together in the draught from an air-conditioning vent, and a bent slat cannot be straightened, only replaced.

Faux-wood is a moulded PVC or composite slat, painted. It is heavier, quieter and softer to look at, and holds its shape in humidity. What it costs you is weight: a wide one is heavy to lift by hand every day, so a large window wants motorising, or two blinds on one board.

We fit both. The window usually decides, not the look.

Slat width, and what it changes

Narrower slats mean more of them. Closed, they stack tighter and cover more evenly. Open, there are more ladder tapes crossing the window and less glass showing between the slats. Wider slats do the opposite: a clearer view when tilted open, fewer surfaces to wipe, and a deeper stack sitting above the glass when the blind is raised.

A small window usually takes a narrow slat; a wide one throws the proportions out. We bring the samples to your window rather than quoting a slat size down the phone.

Where a venetian belongs

Kitchens, where grease and dust wipe off a slat but never come out of fabric. Bathrooms and utility rooms, where aluminium takes the humidity. And a home office, where the tilt earns its money: you drop the glare off a screen in the afternoon without shutting the room down or losing the view. More of that in office blinds and curtains.

Where it does not

Not a bedroom, if you want the room dark. A closed venetian still leaks light between every slat and down both edges. It is not a blackout, and no venetian is — that is a lined curtain, or a blackout roller with side channels.

Not where nobody will clean it. Every slat is a horizontal ledge and Dubai dust settles on all of them. A venetian holds dust in a way a flat fabric blind does not. If that is not going to happen, buy a roller.

Not on a door you walk through daily. The blind has to be raised every time, and the stack sits in the head of the opening. That window wants a curtain that draws aside.

Cordless in any room a child uses

A looped cord or chain within reach of a small child is a real strangulation hazard. In any bedroom, nursery or playroom we fit cordless or motorised as standard, and we will not install a corded venetian there.
