Motorised Wave Track

One written price per finished window, after we’ve measured — fabric, lining, track, fixings, fitting and warranty all inside it. Nothing added later.

A motorised wave track is one system, decided once. Not a wave track with a motor added, but a track built from the start to be driven.

Cord drive and motor drive fight each other

A wave curtain hangs in an even S-curve because the carriers are held at a fixed spacing. On a manual wave a cord maintains that spacing; a motor holds it differently, driving the carriers directly.

They cannot both do it on one track. Put a motor on a corded wave track and the drives fight: the motor pulls, the cord resists, the spacing drifts, and you get deep folds bunched at one end and a flat run at the other. Re-dressing will not fix it, because nothing is holding the spacing. The only repair is a new track — which is why our wave page says a motorised wave must be specified as one from the outset.

Carrier spacing is the specification

Wave is a spacing: carriers at a fixed interval, and a heading tape matched to it exactly. On a motorised wave that spacing has a second job — the motor drives the carrier train, so the interval decides how load spreads along the track and how the fabric behaves when the motor starts and stops. Spacing, tape and motor are specified together, or the curtain looks right on installation day and drifts out of shape by the second month.

End stops, and why they matter more here

A hand knows when a curtain has reached the end of the track. A motor does not — it runs until something tells it to stop, identically, for years. Set imprecisely, it either stops short — leaving a gap at the closing edge you will notice behind a blackout curtain at five in the morning — or drives into the end of the track repeatedly. We programme the limits and test them under load, on the finished curtain.

Load per bracket, and what it is fixed into

On a wave track every carrier works, so load spreads along the whole track — and a motor adds a repeated horizontal force to that vertical load, in the same place every time.

So the track must be rated for span and weight, bracket centres set tighter than the minimum, and the assembly fixed into something that holds a repeated load. In most Dubai towers the reveal is drywall over a stud frame, and a loaded motorised wave into the wrong anchor sags within months.

Weight, and sizing the motor

Wave suits fabric with body, which is precisely what loads a motor. A lined or interlined wave panel over a full drop, or a sheer and a blackout layer on a double wave track, can put several times the load of a light unlined curtain on one motor. So the motor is sized against the finished weight of the panel, not the width of the window — the reasoning is on our motorised page, and what becomes of an under-specified motor is in what actually goes wrong.

How we work

Replacing an older motorised wave usually means a new track too, because the motor was matched to that spacing — in JLT especially that is most of the installation again, though panels can be re-headed. The survey is free and technical: substrate above every window, span and finished panel weight, and an honest look at any track already there. One written price per finished window within 24 hours, nothing added later, fitted on the date in your contract, with a one-year warranty on motors and electronics. We hand-dress every fold on installation day and return to untie, free. Book a free survey.

Questions we get asked

Can my corded wave track be motorised?
No. Cord and motor drive the carriers in different ways and fight each other. A motorised wave is a different track, specified as one.

Does a motorised wave stack differently?
No — the stack is set by carrier spacing, which is the same either way. The motor just makes it identical every time.

Can it use my existing curtains?
Often: panels can be re-headed with tape matched to the new carrier spacing, so you replace the track and keep the fabric.
