Interlined Blackout Curtains
One written price per finished window, after we’ve measured — fabric, lining, track, fixings, fitting and warranty all inside it. Nothing added later.
Interlining is a third layer, and the only upgrade in this category you can feel rather than measure. A soft blanket-like cloth sits between the face fabric and the lining, and everything it gives you — drape, insulation, quiet — comes from one property: mass.
What the third layer does to the fold
A two-layer curtain hangs in whatever folds the fabric can hold on its own. Add interlining and the panel gains body: folds become deep, round and even, and stay that way instead of flattening between dressings. It is the difference between a curtain that hangs and one that falls — the construction behind good hotel curtains.
It also disguises. A thin face fabric over interlining behaves like a much heavier cloth, so you can have a colour or a weave you like without being limited to the heavyweight end of the book.
Heat on a west-facing window
This is where interlining does its most useful work, and it is the most effective thermal upgrade available on a curtain. Three things stack: the blackout coating reflects some radiant heat, the interlining is a genuine insulating layer, and deeper folds trap a thicker pocket of still air against the glass — which does as much work as the fabric.
What it will not do is make a hot room cool. The glass keeps conducting heat all afternoon, and if the track sits on a pole above the window, warm air simply rises out of the top and rolls back into the room. Interlining is worth specifying with a ceiling-fixed track, or it gives back some of what you paid for.
The trade-offs, plainly
It costs more. An extra material and noticeably more labour, because interlined panels are slower to make and have to be hand-finished properly to sit right.
It is bulkier, so the stack is wider. A drawn-back interlined curtain occupies more wall than the same curtain unlined, and on a narrow window that stack covers glass you wanted. Either the track runs past the reveal onto the wall, or interlining is the wrong choice for that window.
It is heavy, and the track carries it. This is the part that gets skipped. An interlined full-drop panel is several times the weight of an unlined one, and in most Dubai towers the reveal is drywall over a stud frame rather than concrete. With the wrong anchor a loaded track sags within months, and once it sags the fold you paid for goes uneven and stays uneven. So we check the substrate at the measurement. On a wave track, where every carrier works, bracket spacing matters more still.
Where it belongs
Master bedrooms and media rooms, where mass helps twice over. Majlis and formal reception rooms, where the fold is the point. West-facing living rooms with full-height glass. It is over-specified in a guest room, a child's room, or any window with a narrow wall to stack onto — and pointless behind a sheer that will be closed most of the time. Which fabrics take interlining well is covered in choosing curtain fabric for a Dubai home.
How we work
A supervisor visits your home free, with the fabric books, and shows you an interlined sample against your own window so you can judge the weight in your hand. Every window measured twice, one written price per finished window within 24 hours, nothing added later, fitted on the date in your contract rather than a range, with a one-year mechanical and labour warranty. Questions we get asked
Is interlining the same as blackout?
No. Blackout comes from the coated lining. Interlining is a separate soft layer added for mass, drape and insulation — you can have both, and on a west window you probably should.
Will it make my room noticeably cooler?
It helps on west-facing glass. It will not beat the heat conducting through the glass itself, and no curtain will.
Does it need a stronger track?
It needs the right fixings for your wall, which we check at the measurement. Weight is the thing that fails an installation here, not fabric.
